Passionate about surfaces, for investigating what they show and hide, liquids are part of a fascination that visual artist Amanda Bouchenoire lives and pursues: the tension of their apparent calm, how they reflect (us) and contrast (us), how They flow, their incomprehensibility, they speak to us of the transience of this liquid world that we inhabit.

Every year for 17 years, Amanda has shared an exhibition with us. For eight years, he has investigated various liquid surfaces and their light and changing possibilities. This year it shows us and immerses us in the reds of an ancient and mythical elixir: wine.

From the plant discovered by Bacchus in ancient Greece to the vine planted after the universal flood and its divine transmutation, wine has been communion, consolation and oblivion. Especially red, so similar to blood. Well Omar Kayyham sings to him in one of his famous rubaiyat: “Take this amphora and let’s drink, listening, without worry, to the vast silence of the universe.”

Amanda Bouchenoire invites us to taste a glass, to lift it and hit it with hers to mix a few drops, as at the beginning of any good trip; to savor this red dream, to enjoy its bouquet. Through this liquid he immerses us in his feeling and perception: a waltz between dancers slowly turning, a waterfall of diamonds, an unprecedented sun in the middle of the night.

After the pandemic, in these moments of apparent calm in which the wine settles in the glass, Amanda provides and gives us this opportunity to unite with our loved ones, to spill some red drops in the present for a communion, with a touch nostalgia and a lot of optimism for what the times to come.

Cheers for these moments turned into contemplation, for these dreams decanted to create images!
